Ben Roper, J.D.

Although I'm trained as a lawyer, I run a 100% mediation practice where I help people in Nova Scotia and P.E.I. solve their problems outside of litigation or court by providing them with neutrality, the right resources, and a safe, productive negotiation process.

My goal is to make dealing with separations, divorces, and other disputes affordable and accessible for everyday people. I believe that, for the majority of cases, mediation should be the first option to explore when seeking professional help.

Access to justice is not only about fees - it's also practical. That's why I have created a mediation process that requires no in-person meetings, and nearly all of my work is conducted over Zoom. Parties don't have to drive, park, or find time in their lives to get into an office. My clients can show up how they are, wherever they are.

My clients often save 50% or more on total fees if they start with my mediation process compared to retaining lawyers as their first step. That's because my hourly rate is lower than a lawyer's, and because all parties share my fee. Where there are two parties, they each pay half of my hourly rate.

I've built a process that works. Over 90% of my mediations result in a successful settlement of all issues. And where a mediation doesn't successfully settle all issues, it usually settles the majority of them, meaning that the parties still saved time and money overall.

Mediation is also a voluntary negotiation, which means that all decision-making remains with the parties. My clients have the peace of mind knowing that that nobody - myself included - can force an outcome on any party in the mediation.

When the parties are ready to learn more, I provide a 1-hour free consultation to discuss their situation and any questions they have - no strings attached. I mediate conflicts of all sizes, in the short-term to help with a single issue, or for larger matters that require a comprehensive mediation plan.
